When Whitening Sensitivity Interrupts Your Morning Coffee
Sensitivity during whitening should be reported instead of treated as proof that the product is working. Temperature discomfort can occur with whitening, but a persistent or strongly localized symptom also needs evaluation for other causes. Continuing more aggressively may increase irritation without improving the result.
Pause and describe the pattern
Follow the product’s instructions about adverse effects and contact your dental team before restarting. Explain whether discomfort involves many teeth or one particular tooth, whether it fades quickly, and whether it continues when you are not eating or drinking. Mention any gum soreness or recent dental work as well.
Review the plan before resuming
The dentist can assess whether the teeth are suitable for whitening and discuss changes to the approach if appropriate. Do not combine multiple products or extend application time to make up for a pause. If a tooth hurts spontaneously, pain persists, or swelling develops, seek prompt advice. A comfortable, supervised plan is more useful than trying to finish a predetermined schedule despite changing symptoms.
