Tooth Pain When You Release a Bite
Pain that appears when you release pressure after biting can be an important detail to tell the dentist. It may occur with a crack or other dental problem, but the symptom alone cannot establish the cause or the treatment needed.
Avoid repeated home testing
Do not keep biting hard objects to reproduce the pain. Note the food or movement that first brought it to your attention and whether temperature also triggers discomfort. Mention any old restoration, recent dental work, or injury involving that area.
Arrange an assessment
The dentist can evaluate the tooth, bite, surrounding tissues, and appropriate images. Some cracks are difficult to characterize, so additional testing or referral may be needed. Ask what to avoid while waiting and what changes would require faster attention. A tooth that hurts only occasionally still deserves evaluation if the pattern keeps returning. Temporary avoidance of the trigger may make eating easier, but it does not show that the underlying problem has healed or that the tooth can safely handle normal forces.
