Root Canal Appointments and the Importance of an Accurate Medication List
Before a root canal appointment, provide a current list of prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements. The treating team needs that information to plan care and discuss any relevant precautions. A list is more dependable than trying to remember product names while you are uncomfortable.
Include recent changes
Mention a medicine started recently, an allergy or previous adverse reaction, and any health condition under active treatment. Bring the names and contact information of other treating clinicians when coordination may be needed. Do not stop prescribed medication independently because a dental appointment is approaching.
Ask for instructions you can follow
If you receive preparation or aftercare instructions, clarify how they relate to your usual medicines. Ask whom to call if directions from different clinicians appear to conflict. This conversation should happen before the procedure when possible, giving the team time to resolve questions. An accurate medication history does not automatically prevent dental treatment; it helps make the plan appropriate for you. Update the information again if anything changes between the consultation and the treatment visit.
