Questions to Ask Before an Implant Consultation Scan
Imaging can be part of planning a dental implant, but different images answer different questions. Before a scan, ask what information the clinician needs and how the image will contribute to treatment planning. Existing records may also be relevant, so tell the office where you have received recent dental care.
Explain your medical background
Bring a medication list and information about conditions or treatments that could affect healing. Mention previous surgery in the area and any problems with prior implants or extractions. The clinician will assess the mouth and medical history rather than judging suitability from an image alone.
Connect the image to a decision
Ask what the scan may show about available bone and nearby anatomy, and what choices could follow from the findings. Implant treatment can involve multiple stages, and additional procedures are not required for everyone. A clear explanation of the purpose, limitations, and next step can make the appointment easier to understand. You should leave knowing what has been learned and which questions still need an answer.
