Porcelain Veneer Edges: Report a New Rough Spot
A rough area at a veneer edge may come from a chip, a deposit, a change in the restoration, or another cause. It deserves assessment if it is new, catches floss, or irritates your tongue. A mirror cannot reliably show the source or depth of the problem.
Avoid home polishing
Do not file the edge with a nail tool or scrape it with metal. Removing porcelain or tooth material can worsen the defect and complicate repair. Continue gentle care and ask the dental team how to manage a sharp area while waiting for the visit.
Give a clear history
Tell the dentist when you first noticed it, whether you bit something hard, and whether the tooth is sensitive or the veneer feels loose. Save any fragment that comes away. Depending on the findings, professional smoothing, repair, replacement, or another response may be considered. The appropriate choice follows examination. A small sensation can be useful early information, even when the veneer still looks unchanged in ordinary photographs.
