Implant Maintenance When Your Cleaning Tool Stops Fitting
If a brush or flossing aid suddenly stops passing around an implant restoration as it previously did, do not force it. A change in access may reflect swelling, a deposit, a restoration issue, or a difference in technique. An examination can identify what has changed.
Compare with your usual routine
Note which space is affected and whether cleaning causes bleeding, tenderness, or a bad taste. Tell the team if you recently changed the size or brand of the cleaning aid. Bring the tool to the visit so its fit can be checked directly.
Keep maintenance individualized
Implant restorations vary in shape, and a device appropriate for one person may be unsuitable for another. Ask for a demonstration around the actual restoration and confirm how to clean areas you cannot easily see. Continue gentle care as instructed while arranging assessment. The goal is effective daily access without scraping or traumatizing tissue, not pushing a larger tool through a space simply because it worked somewhere else in the mouth.
