Implant Crown Repairs and the Importance of Saving the Piece

If an implant crown comes off or a fragment breaks away, keep the piece if it is readily available and contact the dentist. The condition of the crown, connecting components, and surrounding tissues needs assessment. Do not assume that a loose visible part means the implant itself has been lost.

Store it without alteration

Place the piece in a secure container and bring it to the appointment. Do not scrape, drill, or add household adhesive. Avoid chewing on the area and follow the office’s interim instructions. Mention pain, swelling, bleeding, or movement when you call.

Ask what can be evaluated

The clinician can determine which part is affected and whether repair, replacement, or another response is appropriate. A component that appears intact in your hand may still need careful inspection. Saving it preserves useful information and may help the assessment, but it does not guarantee that it can be reused. The important next step is identifying why the problem occurred and checking the structures that remain in the mouth before deciding how the restoration should be rebuilt.
