DIY Dental Impressions Cannot Replace a Full Examination
An impression captures a shape, but it does not show every condition needed for treatment planning. Decay, gum support, root position, and the condition inside a tooth may require examination or appropriate imaging. A well-defined mold is not evidence that a proposed appliance or cosmetic covering is suitable.
Ask what has been assessed
Before using a mail-order or do-it-yourself dental product, find out how the clinician will evaluate health, review relevant records, and manage complications. The ability to send a photograph does not make all underlying conditions visible.
Keep treatment supervision clear
Know who is responsible for diagnosis, follow-up, and an urgent concern. Do not place a product over painful, loose, or swollen teeth while hoping it will stabilize them. Some dental changes are irreversible or can interfere with cleaning and the bite. A physical impression can be one useful record within professional care, but it should not be mistaken for a complete dental assessment or a substitute for a clear plan based on your actual oral health.
