At-Home Whitening: Read the Contact Time Before Starting
More time against the teeth does not automatically mean a better whitening result. Products have specific directions for use, and those instructions matter even when a friend describes a different routine. Longer contact can increase irritation or sensitivity without solving the reason a tooth looks dark.
Check the actual product
Read the directions for the strips, gel, or trays you have purchased. Do not transfer instructions from another concentration or product type. If packaging is unclear, ask a dentist or the manufacturer before beginning. Keep whitening materials away from children and pets.
Know when to pause
Stop using the product and seek advice if you develop troublesome sensitivity, gum irritation, or another unexpected reaction. Avoid combining several whitening methods to accelerate a deadline. Existing crowns, veneers, and fillings will not lighten like natural teeth, so a mismatch may persist regardless of contact time. A realistic plan begins with knowing what is being treated and using a suitable product as directed.
