Aligner Cleaning When You Notice Cloudy Plastic

Aligner Cleaning When You Notice Cloudy Plastic

An aligner may look cloudy from deposits, wear, or other changes, but appearance alone does not tell you whether it needs replacement. Follow the prescribed cleaning method and report a persistent change, especially if there is odor, roughness, cracking, or altered fit.

Avoid heat and abrasives

Do not boil the tray or use household chemicals to make it clear again. Materials can distort or become damaged. Ask the treating team which products and water temperature are appropriate for your aligners rather than copying instructions for a different kind of appliance.

Keep the treatment schedule clinical

Do not advance to a new tray early simply because the current one looks less clear. The wear schedule relates to the planned movement, and fit concerns need advice from the clinician. Continue mouth cleaning as directed before reinserting trays. Good care involves both the teeth and the appliance, with decisions about damaged or unsuitable trays made through the team. A cosmetic change in the plastic is a reason to review cleaning and condition, not a reason to improvise a new movement schedule.
