A Toothache That Starts When You Lie Down
Pain that becomes noticeable at bedtime can disrupt sleep and make it difficult to describe what is happening. The timing is useful information, but it does not identify a diagnosis by itself. Arrange a dental assessment rather than assuming the problem is simply caused by your sleeping position.
Record the pattern
Explain whether pain wakes you, how long it lasts, and whether chewing, heat, or cold also triggers it. Mention recent dental treatment and any swelling or bad taste. These details help the dental team decide how urgently you need evaluation.
Avoid improvised treatments
Do not place aspirin on the gum or apply household chemicals to the tooth. Ask a clinician or pharmacist about appropriate temporary pain relief given your health and medicines. Facial swelling, fever, or worsening symptoms require prompt attention; difficulty breathing or swallowing requires emergency medical help. Pain relief may make the night more manageable, but it does not repair decay, a crack, or inflammation inside a tooth.
