A Broken Denture Is a Repair Question for the Dental Team

A cracked denture or broken clasp can make eating and speaking difficult. Contact a dental office for advice and keep any pieces safe. Household glue and improvised bends may create a poor fit, expose tissues to unsuitable materials, or complicate a professional repair.

Avoid wearing a dangerous piece

Tell the office if the appliance has a sharp edge, moves unpredictably, or cannot be seated comfortably. Do not force it onto the gums or remaining teeth. Ask what to do about eating and temporary appearance while the denture is being assessed.

Discuss why it broke

A fall is different from repeated breakage during normal use. The clinician may need to assess fit, biting forces, and the condition of supporting tissues or teeth. Repairing the visible fracture does not necessarily address an underlying fit problem. Bring the appliance and all available pieces to the appointment. A useful plan considers comfort and function after repair, rather than simply reconnecting parts that may have been under stress for a reason that still needs attention.
