Living with a Temporary Crown
A temporary crown protects a prepared tooth while the final restoration is being made. It is designed for a limited period and may not have the same strength or fit as the permanent crown. Careful handling helps protect the tooth between visits.
Follow chewing and cleaning instructions
Your dentist may recommend avoiding very sticky or hard foods on the temporary restoration. Continue gentle cleaning and use the flossing technique demonstrated by the team. Do not stop brushing because the tooth is covered. Sensitivity can occur, but worsening pain or a bite that feels high should be reported.
Call if the temporary comes off
Keep the restoration and contact the office for advice. Do not use household glue or leave the tooth unprotected without telling your dentist. A lost temporary may affect comfort and the fit of the final restoration. Keep the appointment to complete treatment. Atlantic Dental Associates can explain how to care for the area and determine what to do if the temporary restoration loosens before your next visit.
